Brainstorm runs PageRank-style algorithms (specifically their custom "GrapeRank") over local network data—such as follows, mutes, and zaps—to calculate social proximity.

Under the newly merged NIP-85 (Trusted Assertions), these personalized trust scores are delivered seamlessly to client applications like Amethyst. The result is a highly effective, decentralized spam filter. Because scores are calculated relative to your specific social graph, it creates a personal "Web of Trust" rather than a dystopian, global social credit system.

Hardening the Unstoppable Messenger: The Marmot Protocol and MLS

While NosFabrica conquers the feed, the battle for metadata-private group messaging has also reached a climax. Nostr’s legacy encryption standards (NIP-04 and NIP-44) suffered from metadata leaks and lacked forward secrecy and post-compromise security.

The solution is the Marmot Protocol (formalized under NIP-104), which layers the IETF-standardized Messaging Layer Security (MLS) protocol directly over Nostr’s open relay network. This design allows Nostr to handle decentralized identity and message transport, while MLS manages secure group key agreement and message encryption.

On April 1, 2026, White Noise, a premier privacy-first messaging app built on Marmot, officially passed its rigorous security audit by Least Authority. In tandem, Amethyst fully aligned its embedded Rust backend with the production-grade MIP-01 and MIP-05 wire formats, achieving seamless cross-client encrypted group chats.
